Murphy Nails It Again

Has it been a week already? Wow. You'd think I had a life or something...

A month or so ago, my computer started to do strange things. My monitor wouldn't stay on consistantly. It would blink on, blink off, click on, off, onoff, off... quite frustrating. But then I came to realize, the ol' dinosaur has been around for quite a while. Probably 6 or 7 years now, and that's quite a while in computer years.

At first, I just thought it was my video card that was dying, so my bro and I headed to town and bought a different one. Didn't help. Tried something else, didn't work. In fact, we exhausted both of our repetoirs, and something actually worked. I don't exactly know what, but it worked... kinda. It worked for a little while.

Now it's happened a half a dozen times since, and I took the hint. I had my bro go ahead and order me a new one. He's a paid computer nerd, so he got me a "rocket ship". He ordered it last Monday, and Friday afternoon, it was ready. Yesterday, I had a brief respite and decided it was the only day in the forseeable future to go get it. Here's the main problem. My bro lives in Boise which is about a 3 hour drive one way. That makes the round trip something I don't exactly look forward to, and it pretty much sucks the life out of a whole day. That said, I've got some important things that I've got to have done in the near future, so I can't afford to be without a working computer, so I woke up early and headed out.

I got into Boise at about 10:30 - 11:00 that morning and picked my bro up. He'd called earlier that morning and gotten the computer store's voice mail that said their Saturday hours were 10:00 to 4:00, so we headed down to check out the new delivery. 200 Gig hard drive, dual core processor, 2 Gig of ram, DVD burner, smokin video card, twin front USB2 ports... everything a young man could want.

We turn into the parking lot, find a good parking spot, and then we're visiting as we head up to the door, grab the handle, pull... erm... pull... erm... locked? Erm... que?

A few posts back, if you'll recall, I was feeling blue and mentioned that it was a tough year. The Kabs told me this was my 4 year and it wasn't going to be pretty. Attention to detail is the key for me this year, because anything that can go wrong will.

"They're supposed to be open from 10:00 to 4:00 today. That's what their voicemail said." my bro says.
"Ummm... well this sign right here says they're open Monday through Friday and closed on Saturday and Sunday." I reply.

He was mad, I took it in stride. Par for the year. No sense in worrying about it when there's nothing we can do. We ran an errand, and headed back to his house. All he had was the store's number so there was no calling the guy at home and working something out. I was just out.

Oh well. We headed out, grabbed a bite to eat and then I loaded up and headed back here. But it wasn't a total waste... I did stop in Twin and hit the grocery store, something I hadn't done for a few months. I was pretty well down to bare cupboards. But kee-rap! $175 for a few basic necessities? Ok... maybe the cracker jacks aren't exactly necessities, but hey... a guy's got to live once in a while, doesn't he?

Lovely vs. Attractive.

Ladieeeeeeeeeees and Gentlemen... We are now ready for our main event of the evening... In this corner, standing 5'11" and weighing in at a buck o' five, we have Miss Lovely. Annnnnnd in this corner, standing at 5'8" and weighing in at between 120 and 160 pounds... Miss Attractive! Let's get it on!!!

Ok... so maybe there isn't really such a match on the schedule, but it goes on every day. At least in my mind. You see...

To me, there is quite a difference between a girl who's lovely and one that's attractive. For some reason, not all gorgeous girls are attractive to me, and on the flip side of that coin, sometimes attractive women aren't always gorgeous. It's always been a peculiar thing to me. Sometimes though, I hit the jackpot and the attractive ones are also lovely.

Being a curious sort, I always wondered what the common factor was, and for the longest time I couldn't come up with any connection. Then... after I was introduced to the Kabalarian Philosophy, I started to crunch the numbers of the women that I found (and find) most attractive. Almost without fail, they all come out to the same number. It's quite bizarre actually, but there it is.

So here the other night, I'm watching Dr. Who, and the featured guest star struck me immediately. Of course, she was quite lovely, and I found her very attractive. She captivated me immediately, and is one of very few women that I think looks good with her hair up. Anyway... at the end of the show I caught her name. Guess what...

Ayup. She came up to the same number.

Fingertips have memories,
I can't forget the curves of your body
And when I feel a bit naughty
I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes
(But no one ever does)

Life's Theme Song...

Since KTM won't let me out of blogging because of real life (slave driver!), I suppose you're all going to have to read some less than interesting drivel. You all know where to lay the blame now...

When you're young, you think you know life, love, and all the answers. I was much the same way. Picture if you will an innocent young lad, bright eyed and bushy tailed. Eager to help anyone with their troubles, and always there with a helping hand. A really nice guy. Got that picture? Ok... I was nothing like that. :P

I kid... I kid. I might have been bushy tailed. ;)

Well... life has a way of curing the bright eyed and bushy tailed, and it starts early.

Many, many years later... I'm listening to the radio and heard a song. I liked it, it was fun, and I didn't think anything more about it. Of course, I've heard it dozens of times since that first one. The fact of the matter is that I kinda know it by heart now, as do most of you.

As time went on, it dawned on me... That could very well be my theme song. Now that I'm older and more jaded, I'm happy to present -- my theme song.

Alice Cooper -- No More Mister Nice Guy

I used to be such a sweet, sweet thing
Until they got a hold of me
I opened doors for little old ladies
I helped the blind to see
I got no friends 'cause they read the papers
They can't be seen with me and I'm getting shot down
And I'm feeling mean
No more Mister Nice Guy
No more Mister Clean
No more Mister Nice Guy
They say he's sick , he's obscene
I got no friends 'cause they read the papers
They can't be seen with me and I'm getting shot down
And I'm feeling mean
My dog bit me on leg today
My cat clawled my eye
My mom's been thrown out of society circle
My dad's had to hide
I went to church incognito
When everybody rose, the Reserved Smith
He recognized me
Punched me in the nose
He said,
No more Mister Nice Guy
No more Mister Clean
No more Mister Nice Guy

So tell me... What's YOUR theme song?

I got no friends 'cause they read the papers
They can't be seen with me and I'm getting shot down
And I'm feeling mean

So You Want Another Post?

Go write your own... I'm busy. :P

Nah... actually I've been spending my time doing the things that I have to do this time of the year. Gathering, sorting, and weaning calves.

Fact is, I'm back in the saddle again tomorrow, and probably for the rest of the week too. It's a busy time of the year, but that also means that payday is getting closer too, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Well... just a few more days and then it'll slow down a bit, and perhaps I can get some things done around here that I've had to put off all summer... but I'm not betting on it. This year, it's been like that.

Today's Mystery Lyric:

I want to kiss her but
She won't let me.
I want to whisper sweet nothings
in her ear.
I want to hold her behind
Closed doors and more.
I want to kiss her but
She won't let me.

Another Sad Day For the Loser

Back in June, I posted about one of my mentors, Wayne Hage, passing away. Today... well... we're back on the same subject.

Yesterday, Wayne's wife Helen was killed in a car wreck.

I can't tell you all how much they meant to me, and how many times they'd taken time out of their schedules to visit with me.

She was a very special lady.

There are a few of you who read this blog, who may have considered her the very devil, but you never met her. She was very witty and clever. But... she said what she believed, and she never compromised her beliefs, even when politically expedient. This earned her a lot of enemies while she served in Congress, but tremendous respect from us, her minions. :P

While she was in Congress, there was a big push to list Salmon as an endangered specie. This would have crippled much of this state. She thought the suggestion was ludacris, and she protested it in her own special way. She'd host salmon bakes. Her message was simple but subtle... how can salmon be endangered when you can buy as much as you want in any store. This too earned her many enemies, and three terms in office.

I liked her. I'll miss her.

Goodbye Helen.

Morgie Revisited

Today's going to be a double feature. This post is going to be much easier than the next one, but them's the breaks.

Anyway... I asked my dad about Morgie yesterday, and he filled in some things, and believe it or not... I was not correct about some things.

It's ok... you can get up now, it does happen occasionally.

First the corrections (these make the Morgie tale even more bizarre).

Morgie didn't get directed to kill the evil one by the good lord as I originally remembered. Actually, he was compelled to get "the assassins". Dad told me that those were his exact words. And he knew that what he was doing was wrong, but he couldn't help himself. He had to take out the assassins. They were out there and he had to stop them. Then he went on his spree, and wound up in the looney bin.

A few weeks later, President Kennedy was killed.

The second thing, doesn't amount to much, but the second kid, the one that got the axe, was named Larry. Morgie hacked his head open something fierce, and he lay in a coma for months. However, any time that someone would ask his mother how he was doing, she would reply, "He's doing just fine. He's going to be allright, and by the time it's all over, you'll hardly know that it happened." She'd even tell this to the doctors, who would roll their eyes, and cast sideways glances at each other.

A few years later my dad was down at a cousins shop when a fellow drove up. He got out of the car and walked up to them and started visiting. After a while he said, "You don't recognize me, do you." They both admitted they didn't. As you've already guessed, it was Larry. Dad said it was amazing, he only had a slight limp.

And there you have it.

Did You Miss Me?

Take better aim next time...

Yep... I'm back. So that means that KTM lost her bet with PinTA that I got killed by ruffians. That also means that fermi's wager that someone "went all brokeback on him" is also incorrect, because I would'a killed myself were that to have happened.

Nope... just another uneventful week in the trenches. I'm sure you're dying to know all the gory details, but you'll just have to wait. I will tell you this much though, nothing I did last week involved a bikini clad hippo.
