Something in the Air

Just what I like to see on the weather forecast. Don't you wish you were here fermi?

Thursday Night, Jan 11
Low: 4 °F RealFeel®: -12 °F
Mostly cloudy and frigid with snow flurries

Did you all catch that? Not only is it in the single digits and it feels like -12, but the really good part... mostly cloudy and FRIGID with snow flurries. I know, I know... for most of you cloudy and frigid would be enough, but not for us. We're a hearty breed out here. No... we demand more, and snow flurries most definitely ice the cake.

UPDATE: The lyin' batch o' forecasters. I don't know where they got their degrees from, but they missed it by a mile. It's currently -8. Dress warm KTM, I'm sending it your way. ;)

No, I don't.

I experienced my share of frigid weather (with and without snow flurries) when I lived in Massachusetts. Every winter, there was always at least one "cold snap" where the temperature did not exceed 20F for a period of about two weeks. Highs in the teens, lows in the negatives. So cold it made my eyeballs hurt. So cold, even the wood stove couldn't keep the chill out of the house. Brrrrr. So no, I definitely do not wish I was there!

Speaking of wood stoves, how's yours doing?

My momma always taught me to share. ;)

The stove? I haven't been in the shop much lately, so it hasn't been used much. And with it being below zero out, I'm wagering that it's gonna take a bit longer to take the chill off.

Wow, I was feeling really bad concerning the upcoming frigid weather we have coming, but it's in the teens ... not below zero. Yikes!

Ah, I miss those days of -40 wind chill (I refuse to call it real feel as the reason it feels that damn cold is because of the bloody wind) when I was walking across campus. Ah, the memories.

Enjoy, we're just getting freezing rain here. I went out yesterday at 1:30 in the afternoon and had to scrape my damn car of the ice. Annoying!

We have all the ice here. Cars off the roads. All that fun stuff. And its about to get worse. Joy.

Beth, it hasn't been too bad. Other than Friday, when it was mighty chilly, the weekend wasn't below 0.

Kath, I use Accuweather and RealFeel is their registered proprietary measurement de jour. I think it takes into account wind and cloud cover and humidity and things like that so it's not just straight wind chill.

bc, well you had it good for a long time. Winter was bound to hit eventually.

Yeah I know. Nothing like 65-70 in the middle of January.

I just hate how its cold one day and warm the next and then back to cold again.

This week it will be a high in the teens though.

I took a nice 3 day weekend and relaxed. Not like I could go anywhere.

You are always welcome Mr. S. If I were you though, I'd just jump on the ol' bicycle and come on out. Sure it's not a century ride, but I think you'll make it just the same.

Oh... I checked with a cousin yesterday who lives "up the creek" and he told me that it was only -28 there night before last. I'm in a banana belt!

They're still forecasting ice for us overnight. I know that is no big deal for some of you, but since we have very little equipment here for treating roads, this has all the makings of one huge cluster-frell tomorrow morning.

Driving home from the "fancy-pants" party, it was sleeting all the way. This bodes well for my getting to sleep late tomorrow!! Hell yeah, I'll take pictures. Especially if I get to sleep in and fool around at home for a few hours.
