What American accent do you have? Your Result: The West Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta. | |

West all the way here. I'm more south than Philly though.
It's funny, because I've had people from North Dakota tell me I have an accent. Take off, eh? But people from California say I sound Southern. I say they sound retahded.
As I commented on Kat's blog, I don't think that survey gives accurate results. It doesn't ask the right questions. I don't have much of an accent, but when I get one (like after a few beers), it is most definitely southern. Not "midland".
The quiz should ask how many syllables you pronounce in a 1-syllable word (at least 2), what you call carbonated drinks (they are all cokes, no matter what brand or flavor), and how you address a group of people (y'all).
More South than Philly? You are now dead to me... ;P
I've known a lot of southern belles, fermi. Several from 'Bama, a few from Missip, and even the occasional Geojun. They all have a common denominator. There comes a certain point in time when they all say "Y'ALL QUIT MAKIN' FUN OF MY ACCENT NOW, YA HEAR!!!"
btw, my Mexican improves tremendously with a little libation...
Word ver: fsylem -- what we call fermi's new place of work.
Mine came out with Northeast all the way but said something about being asked if Im from Chicago and that I say that soda is called pop.... Nope.. Im from New York and its pronounced as such. Not Nu Yawk and soda is soda. :D
Two posts with this quiz. The Colts are playing in one minute so I'll actually take it tomorrow!
It's amazing! I would swear I don't have a Boston accent, but that's what it told me!
(And just so everyone knows, I pronounce my "r's".)
LL - I find my Spanish improves greatly with a few beers as well. We should go drinking together and impress each other with our Spanish/Mexican.
Wouldn't we make a pair to draw to... ;)
