The Great Debate
Wherein we will debate the greatness of 8.
Nahhh... not really. I was just fishin' for a title. No, today you will all be treated to a bit of a rant.
I often surf the internets (as Tiff likes to say), and almost daily find myself waiting for the content of the pages I'm hitting to load. What's the big deal with that you may ask? Well... I guess it all boils down to this...
Why is it that all the crap you don't really care about always has to load first? The banners, the borders, the ads... well... they all seem to be first on the list. The actual content that you want to see like a new post or topic always comes in very last. And heaven help me if it's a graphic heavy site. I know, I know... I live in the stix. BFE if you will, and for this "luxury" I'm forced to endure less than stellar internet service, but gadfry... it does get old.
But as bad as blogger is, it is much better than myspace. Myspace might possibly be the worst of the worst. The few times I've ventured over there it's been horrible. Not only do you have to wait until all the overabundance of crap that everyone throws on their sites loads up, but also the crapload of "cutsie" flock-shot comments too before any type of post appears. I don't know how people can actually stand it over there, but it could just be a generational thing.
Sometimes... less is more.

The internet is just a series of tubes. You need bigger tubes. Or something.
But I hear ya. It is irritating when the ads load up right away and you are left staring at them involuntarily as you wait for the actual content to finally show the hell up. That happens even on a broadband connection.
I think my tubes have been tied.
Yikes!
You need bigger tubes? Isn't that Hank Hill's problem.
Here's the real never-ending internet debate
Surprisingly, that reminds me of several of my real life conversations.
I'm so stupid I haven't figured out how to load up either my blog or myspace page with graphics which take a year to load.
Oh Kath... you have better things to do... like read and watch movies. ;)
I just fired the gerbil that used to load my internet pages. Now I got me a squirrel that eats nothing but energy bars and drinks Red Bull.
Squirrel? Are you sure it wasn't a chipmunk, oops, I mean prairie dog?
:rollin: Ya gotta love the tube...
LL - EXACTLY!!! I have better things to do than worry about graphics and my Internet addresses. Too much like cleaning.
I so agree with your take on Myspace. I don't get why any adults would be there posting away, trying to hook up. It seems like a teenager's hotspot, but not for the big people. They all just seem rather immature and sad.
Interesting post there LL. I think it might be an idea to go hunt for some infos on this, afterall, there's always a right way and a wrong way in building websites.
I think half the problem for anyone new to web page building, or simply new to putting together their own look is that some peeps just want to show off everything all at once.
There are some pages that completely lock up my computer and Im on broadband.
HOLY CRAP!!! It's Madre!!!
Hey! Long time no... erm... read.
Welcome to the End of the World.
*raises hand sheepishly* I have a MySpace page.
But it does suck. I pretty much just duplicate what I have on my own blogger blog on the MySpace page anyway. You'd be surprised at how many 30 somethings are on over there.
Of course the ads come through first. Money. It's always about the money. As much as everyone bitched and moans and does everything they can to avoid the commercials, the advertising industry will find a way to make you watch them. Soon they'll get the right to force their way into your house and make you watch them ala A Clockwork Orange. Greedy bastards.
BTW- WTF does BFE mean?
"BTW- WTF does BFE mean?"
I know that one, but I'm a gentleman.
BFE: Badly Flawed Enema?
Clearly I don't have a clue.
"Badly Flawed Enema"
No, but you might be able to get one of those there.
After reading that link...
I probably should have said BFI.
OK, I know what BFE means now.
I've heard tha google reader will serve up piping hot content without the annoying ads. You do lose the look of the page, but if all you're after is content, then you're in luck.
I of course have not tried reader, or bloglines, or any of the other feers, becase I am old and set in my ways and can't be bothered and actually quite like to sit a spell and wait for pages to load.
it's almost as much fun as taking a guess as to whether Haloscan is going to work or not. Oh yes, it's a simmering stew of excitment here...
Holy cow... nearly the whole fam damnly has showed up.
I guess it just goes to show, if you wait long enough between posts, pert near everyone will comment. Except the undead KTM...
I wait a week between mine. I hate daily posters. OK, I don't hate them. I just keep to reading them only once a week. I think once a week is just good enough. Even the fabulous Dave Barry only does one column a week -- and he's actually funny and interesting.
Trinamick would round things out. But if stellar shows up and comments, it might tip the scales toward "impending apocalypse" or something.
Where is Trinamick? Is she back yet?
Where is LL? Haven't seen him around either.
I think "less is more" is LL's new motto for posting frequency. Either that, or he really is waiting to trinamick to comment before he posts anything new...
Did you fall off your horse?
Hey there, you going to post sometime this century??? Or even this month?
