Mornings with the Loser...

Since our dear Miss Knight wants to hear a story about the most beautiful woman I've ever seen...

Of course that would entail me telling you all of part of my past. A part that would also entail me revealing a bit about my psyche and how I was much more timid in my youth when dealing with the beautiful of the fairer sex...

So I won't. ;)

No instead let's talk about radio morning shows and my dislike for them.

I don't know what it is about the morning and why radio stations insist on having two or three DJ's droning on and on when all a guy wants in a radio station is a good selection of music to wake up to.

It didn't used to be like that. I remember when I was younger radio stations actually played music. Spun records and the like. But then... someone somewhere got a great idea. Why pay someone to be a DJ when you could buy pre-taped radio programs from California or the other big markets? And so... programming changed.

From this... I got treated to people who I didn't know, and didn't have any idea where they were from, telling me about their local goings on and their favorite sexual positions. Nowhere in these drivelings was any type of music played and instead of waking up, found myself bored to death thinking how in the world could anyone call this crap passible for mornings. So I switched the station, but a peculiar thing happened. Pretty soon... I was deluged by more and more canned morning shows. The copycat patrol was in full swing...

I couldn't get away from them. Talking. More talking. Followed by even more talking.

I don't want talking on my FM radio dial! I want music... and the heavy stuff at that. Something to wake up to. Give me something to get my heart going after a few hours of slumber. Now if in between the songs, you have a DJ take a couple calls or joke with other radio jocks... it's a good thing. Make you smile a bit as you're putting on the socks, but no... I couldn't get anything like that.

One day... I'm watching local TV and they start advertising a new radio station breaking into the local market. So I decided to tune in one day while driving. Good music... just the kind I gravitate toward, so it quickly became my go-to station and I tuned my bedside clock-radio into it and woke up to the dulcet sounds of White Zombie and the occasional Slipknot when the alarm went off. But before too long... yup... you guessed it, a morning show began.

Dr. Nick Redbone took to the mic and mornings have never been the same since... but in a good way. You see... he's actually a real life local guy. Slightly younger than I am, but a child of the same influences that I grew up with. He started out just playing tunes and trying to find his way, but along the way, he came up with a "bit" on Fridays. "Your week in review" he called it and listeners text or email in and rated their week on a scale of one to five stars. It turned into a pretty big success. So from Fridays... more bits cropped up until now there's a new bit every day of the week. Not long... they last from 7 am until 9 or so because by then you're ready to move on and so is he. But it's fun. And something else happened as well...

Because he was going up against all the canned programs... he started dominating the morning ratings. Alas... but how can someone in the Southern Idaho market go anywhere or get more than just a small following? Enter technology...

Like most radio stations... they stream online. As a result... we get treated to texts and emails from all over the country, and to me that's really something. I guess it goes to show that there are more people than just me looking for that little bit of quality in the morning.

So if you're in the mood to sample a little bit of the good stuff... click right here. Who knows... perhaps some day, I'll hear a text from you asking Dr. Nick how much wood can a woodchuck chuck. If you do... tell him LL sent ya.

Today's mystery lyric: (Remember the rules folks, no online searching of the lyrics, if you don't know it, you don't have the answer!) Since nobody even guessed last time... I'll give you an easy one. Well... it won't be easy for WOWie, but...

Ridin' down the highway
Goin' to a show
Stop in all the by-ways
Playin' rock 'n' roll
Gettin' robbed
Gettin' stoned
Gettin' beat up
Broken boned
Gettin' had
Gettin' took
I tell you folks
It's harder than it looks

Answer to last lyric: Sexy and I Know it by LMFAO. Ya bunch of losers...
